Terry

Since 1973, Terry has immersed himself in the field of high performance liquid chromatography. His background as instructor, method developer, process analyst, ... laid the groundwork for his developing a low-cost, highly-effective liquid chromatograph.

Katie

At the start of 2016, Terry brought Katie on to build and test each C-Vue unit. Using skills otherwise expressed in photographic and artistic pursuits, Katie meticulously pieces together each component so that the finished product is not only perfectly functional, but cosmetically appealing.

About our C-Vue® Liquid Chromatograph & Software:

The C-Vue® LC mission is to facilitate a step change reduction in the cost of liquid chromatography to expand this analytical technique into new markets and applications.

Our primary design criteria from the outset: Remove costs from every component while maintaining a system performance approaching that of more expensive LC systems:

The expensive mobile phase pump has been replaced by a screw-driven spring that provides constant force against a simple plastic syringe, not only eliminating the costly pump, but also providing pulse-free flow. Initially, finding a suitable stand-in for a septum injector proved challenging, but a specially designed 6-port valve with external loop provides excellent performance.

The column, the heart of the system, defines the performance of the instrument as well as the requirements for the other components. The use of reverse phase media ODS works for most HPLC applications. Millipore Sigma Chromolith® columns provide excellent performance and low back pressure, making this our preferred column family.

The initial detector design was based on the use of conventional UltraViolet (UV) absorbance and uses the Hg 254nm line and a conventional flow cell. UV@254nm is the preferred choice because many organic compounds absorb in this region of the UV spectrum and because this lamp meets the performance and cost requirements. We have added a 214nm detector for low-UV absorbers.

Detector signal processing and data reduction are accomplished using proprietary data system software.

Our innovative design provides separations comparable to those achieved by instruments costing several times more while providing the added benefit of using much lower solvent consumption and lower operating costs.

We at C-Vue® LC are excited about expanding the uses and possibilities for liquid chromatography in the broader analytical market. Please check back often. More good things are coming.
